Is your site in a declared termite area?
In Victoria, each council designates the parts of its municipality that are termite risk areas. In those areas, new buildings, alterations and extensions need a termite management system. Search a suburb to check.
Since 1 May 2026, Victoria’s Building Regulations no longer limit termite protection to designated areas: a designation is the clearest sign of termite risk, but your building surveyor decides what the National Construction Code requires for your site. Termite rules in Victoria →

Council designations
Every council is Declared, Partly declared or Not declared. The status comes from the council’s own designation where it publishes one, and otherwise from the Building Commission’s statewide list (January 2011). Designations change, so always confirm with your building surveyor.
