Termite Barrier Installation in Melbourne

Vale installs termite barriers for commercial builders across Melbourne, from the inner suburbs to the growth corridors in the north, west and south-east.

We install JH Termite Barrier at every termite entry point: service penetrations, construction joints, cutouts and the perimeter, or as a full under slab barrier where the design calls for it. Each stage is installed around your pour program and recorded before the concrete goes in.

Residential work is delivered through the builder. Geelong and Ballarat are covered by the same team.

C

Declared Termite Areas in Melbourne and Victoria

Under the National Construction Code (NCC), certain parts of Victoria are classified as declared termite areas — locations identified as having elevated subterranean termite risk, where a termite management system is a mandatory requirement for new building work. Local councils are responsible for designating these areas, and builders are required to confirm a project’s declared status as part of standard project compliance checks.

However, declared area status is not the full picture of termite risk. Subterranean termites — most commonly Coptotermes throughout Melbourne — are present across metropolitan and regional Victoria regardless of declared boundaries. Colonies can range from hundreds of thousands to well over a million termites, foraging considerable distances underground in search of timber, and can establish concealed entry points into a structure well before any visible signs appear.

For this reason, many builders choose to specify termite barrier systems on projects outside declared areas as standard practice, rather than relying on declared status alone to determine risk. Confirming requirements early — during design and documentation — avoids compliance issues later in the build and ensures termite protection is coordinated with the construction program from the outset.

Our Process

StepActivity1234
1

Estimating & Scope Review

Every project begins with a review of the construction drawings and project documentation.

Our estimating team analyses the plans to identify termite management requirements, determine the scope of works and prepare a detailed project quotation.

2

Project Coordination

Once approved, our team coordinates directly with the site manager to discuss the scope of works, installation requirements and site attendance schedule.

This process helps ensure termite protection measures are installed at the appropriate stages of construction and aligned with the project program.

3

Construction Phase Installation

Our installation teams attend site as required throughout construction to complete the nominated termite protection measures in accordance with project requirements and our agreed upon scope of works.

4

Compliance & Invoicing

Following completion of the installation works, the project is transferred to our compliance and accounts team.

Compliance documentation and certification are prepared and issued together with the final invoice, providing a streamlined process for project administration and record keeping.

Our standard invoice terms are 30 days end of month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question not covered here? Talk to the estimating team.1300 825 373
Do you install termite barriers in Melbourne?

Yes. Vale installs JH Termite Barrier for builders across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, including Geelong and Ballarat.

Do new buildings in Victoria require termite protection?

Many new buildings in Victoria require termite protection measures, particularly within declared termite areas. Termite management requirements should be considered during project planning and construction.

Are termites only found in declared termite areas?

No. Although declared termite areas exist throughout Victoria, termite activity can occur throughout the state and is not limited to specific locations.

Do you work with commercial builders?

Yes. Vale Pest Group regularly works with commercial builders, developers and project teams across a broad range of construction sectors.

Do you provide compliance certificates?

Yes. Compliance documentation and certification are issued following completion of the installation works and form part of our project handover process.

Can you service regional Victoria?

Yes. We support projects throughout Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and regional Victoria.

Do you install physical termite barriers?

Yes. Vale Pest Group specialises in the installation of physical termite barrier systems for commercial construction throughout Victoria: education, healthcare, retail, community and multi-residential projects. Residential work is delivered through the builder.

Physical termite barriers are commonly incorporated into service penetrations, construction joints, perimeter interfaces, subfloor construction and other building elements requiring termite management measures during construction.

When is termite protection installed on a Melbourne build?

Before and during the slab pour. Collars go on the service penetrations and barrier strips at the construction joints and perimeter before each pour, so it has to be planned into the program. It can’t be added once the concrete is down.
