Is City of Melbourne a declared termite area?
Partly. City of Melbourne has designated parts of its municipality as termite risk areas.
What this means for your build
In a declared area, new buildings and additions need a termite management system under the National Construction Code, and your building surveyor will look for protection to AS 3660.1 and an installation certificate at handover.
Designated areas: Some areas only, shown on council’s termite map (designated area highlighted). Check address against map; e.g. Parkville reportedly split.
Price termite protection into the job from the start: most of it goes in before and during the slab pour and can’t be added later.
