Victorian rules in short
- Since 1 May 2026, termite protection in Victoria is no longer limited to council-designated termite areas.
- The National Construction Code’s termite provisions now set the requirement, and your building surveyor confirms what each project needs.
- Where termite management is required it follows AS 3660.1, and a durable notice must be fixed on the building.

Is Geelong a declared termite area?
Partly. The City of Greater Geelong has designated parts of its municipality as termite risk areas. Surf Coast Shire and the Borough of Queenscliffe have not designated any, and Golden Plains Shire has designated its whole municipality. Since 1 May 2026 termite protection is no longer limited to designated areas, so ask your building surveyor either way.
